Young Latvian, Karlis Reisulis has showed some very good pace this year contesting the EMX250 championship and his results certainly don’t reflect his pace.
Even though Reisulis sits fifth in the championship after his first podium at home in Kegums, he has had quite a lot of bad luck and mechanical issues meaning three DNF’s.
This weekend round ten of the MX2 World Championship heads to the old school and iconic track of Maggiora which the VRT Yamaha team will contest. Reisulis, van Erp and Towers will be under the awning this weekend to contest the MX2 World Championship – it’ll be Reisulis’ MX2 GP debut.
We understand, the good news won’t stop there for Reisulis as he’ll make the permanent move to the MX2 World Championship. The factory Yamaha MX2 GP team have had an injury to Thibault Benistant and decided to move Andrea Bonacorsi up to MXGP.
At the moment, Rick Elzinga is the sole rider under the Yamaha MX2 GP awning but we believe that Reisulis will get drated in and become a full factory Yamaha MX2 GP rider from Indonesia. It’ll be a good experience for Reisulis after a season and a half contesting EMX250 he’ll now start his career as an MX2 GP rider and hoping to secure a full time ride for the 2025 season.
With the Lawrence Brothers doing so well in America after a spell in the GP paddock and Coenen’s currently having a lot of success in MX2, keep an eye on the Reisulis Brothers. Janis moved up to the EMX250 series this year but an injury after round one ruled him out of the rest of the season otherwise he may have been ready for MX2 GP’s in 2025 as well. Of course that could still be a possibility although he may decide to race EMX250 for another season but give it another couple of years and the Reisulis Brothers should both be racing MX2 GP’s.
Yamaha drafted in Gavin Towers who now has two rounds of the EMX250 series under his belt and the American import was in the running for the MX2 GP ride but he’ll stay with the VRT Yamaha team. He is still expected to race MX2 GP’s that don’t collide with the EMX250 series.
Credit to Yamaha who despite being hit with plenty of injuries – Jago Geerts, Maxime Renaux, Thibault Benistant and Janis Reisulis are looking for replacements the best they can – even if it is within.
